So you would like me to write you a letter of recommendation? I’ll be happy to. It takes me, on average, two hours to write a good letter. The more specific information I have from you, the better job I can do telling the world how wonderful you are.

Here are some of the questions I am often asked to answer when I write your recommendation. Please keep them in mind when you compile the above materials for me.

- A copy of your transcript
- An explanation of the special accomplishments you made in each class that you have taken from me.
- An explanation of leadership roles and accomplishments you have made in the clubs I advise.

- What are the first words that come to mind to describe this candidate?
- Has this candidate shown evidence of leadership and involvement in his/her school or larger community? Please give examples if possible.
- Has this candidate demonstrated the ability to follow through on projects and ideas? Please comment on his/her responsibility and tenacity, giving examples if possible.
- What qualities does this candidate bring to groups or projects of which he/she is a part? Please comment on the candidate’s greatest strengths and weaknesses, giving any examples that you feel would help us envision him/her.
- How does this candidate respond to challenges, either physical or emotional?
